One-tenth of seniors live with children
In 2006, approximately 12% of Alberta households headed by a senior had children living in their home.11 Less than 1% of Alberta children lived with their grandparents, without the presence of parents.
11 According to Statistics Canada, children refer to blood, step- or adopted sons and daughters, regardless of age or marital status and grandchildren in households where there are no parents present. Sons and daughters who are living with their spouse or common-law partner, or with one or more of their own children are not considered to be members of their parent's household, even if they are in the same household.
