PDD Priority Actions - Message from the Minister

The Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program works with others to support adults with developmental disabilities to be included in community life and to be as independent as possible. The Priority Actions that have been identified for the program focus on achieving positive outcomes for people being supported, and on ensuring the program is sustainable for years to come.

During the past year and a half, I met with individuals supported by the program, their families and guardians, and service providers to discuss how we can make the PDD program even better. I also visited other jurisdictions to learn about best practices in delivering supports for adults with developmental disabilities. As well, I asked the PDD Community Boards to consult with their stakeholders and report on these consultations, which resulted in the "What We Heard" document.

All of this information was used to develop the six Priority Actions. The goals of the Priority Actions are to improve clarity about who the PDD program serves and the services provided, increase consistency in program delivery, and improve effectiveness and efficiency so the program is sustainable over the long term.

I believe that with these changes, and by working together, adult Albertans with developmental disabilities can have the opportunity to be active and contributing members of our communities, both today and well into the future.
