The Northeast Region Community Board is pleased to announce the 2011 PDD Northeast Award Recipients:
Darcy Ferguson – St. Paul
Darcy is actively involved in his community through his volunteer activities. He co-chairs Special Olympics St. Paul, volunteers at the bingo hall and provides transportation for individuals with developmental disabilities to hockey games, meetings, and social events. Darcy has been an integral member of the team at an autobody shop for seventeen years.
Andrew Spronk – Barrhead
Andrew is a member of the Barrhead Special Olympics as the Athletic Representative to the Executive Committee. He is also an athlete participating in floor hockey and softball. Andrew is involved with his community through church groups, choirs, community groups, and his job at a grocery store. Andrew also loves to travel, and has inspired other individuals with disabilities to do the same.
Ted’s Automotive (Ted Straathof) – Lac La Biche
Ted’s Automotive is a successful automotive shop in Lac La Biche that has provided employment for individuals with developmental disabilities. Ted Straathof is known in his community for creating a positive workplace where all employees are valued and appreciated for their skills.
Kim Gauthier – Athabasca
Kim has worked at Blue Heron Vocational Training Centre for 13 years supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. She is passionate about her work, whether it is helping individuals articulate their goals or mentoring other staff. She is highly respected by her peers and is recognized for her knowledge and expertise in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
