What it is
- Minister’s 6 most important things to be done + 11 instructions given to Community Boards after the review = PDD Change Initiatives Project
- The 17 activities/orders have been put into 9 “Change Initiatives”. They are:
- Have PDD operate as one business across all areas.
- Pick out the common ways we will start to do things.
- Make PDD’s hiring of agencies better
- Continue to use the Supports Intensity Scale and look at the way PDD hand outs money
- Improve the way the PDD program gets and hires services from agencies
- Make the PDD system better
- Start a Performance Management Framework that includes measuring Personal Outcomes for people
- Come up with a way to make sure agencies are responsible
- Make an up to date computer system that is easy to use.
- Be clear about the things that PDD does, and share good ideas across the program to be excellent
- Share all the information about the PDD program
- Have one website to replace the Community Board websites
- Put money saved from administration to services to help people
- Make it better for families using Family Managed Services
- They have the same, complete information
- Make less problems for families
- Make supports better for people with many needs
Why it’s important
- PDD is an important program that gives help to adult Albertans with disabilities. This is a great chance to make PDD the best it can be for the people it helps.
- Information on the Change Initiatives (ideas and plans) will be shared with people, families, PDD staff, agencies, Family Managed Services and other people involved with PDD. Their ideas will be wanted during the next 1-2 years.
What’s happened so far
- June 2011: A project was made to make sure the 9 Change Initiatives would start.
- June 2011: Meetings were held in each of the 6 PDD areas to decide on how to start a new way of hiring agencies. (Change Initiative #2)
- September 2011: PDD Community Board websites were made into the Ministry of Seniors PDD program website. (Change Initiative #6)
- September 2011: Complete information was put on the website for families interested in doing their own supports through Family Managed Services. (Change Initiative #8)
- December 2011: Paper on how the Change Initiatives are going was put on the PDD website
What’s next (key goals and timelines)
- One Program – One Business
- December 2011: first plan on how to do business the same way across Alberta
- April 2012: make the plan better
- May 2012-March 2013: start doing things the same way
- April 2013: new way of doing business way fully started
- Money and Hiring
- June 2011: meetings with the people who use PDD supports done
- January 2012: tests to see how the new ways are working and how hiring agencies is going to happen
- April 2013: new hiring ways started
- Reliable and Always Making it Better
- November 2011: Personal Outcomes Index surveys start across Alberta, as the way to figure out how people are doing
- December 2011: agencies using the same plan to be responsible
- September 2012: making and starting a way to figure out how well PDD is doing. A list of how things are going begins
- IT (computer) use:
- Spring 2012: What PDD needs for a new computer system. Alberta Supports to help PDD
- Spring 2014: New IT system made, ready to start using it across Alberta
- What the PDD Program Does and the Best Ideas
- November 2011: The best way to do things, and the guidelines to do these made for PDD
- December 2011: Rules/ways for PDD Community Boards to share their best ideas. This will be done every 4 months
- The Same Way of Talking, Writing, Telling
- September 2011: all PDD areas’ websites became 1 PDD website
- October 2011 and ongoing: making the website better and up to date
- Spring 2012: find other ways to make sure there is the same, reliable communication about PDD
- Change Where The Business Savings Will Go
- December 2011: steps made to help keep track of and record how business money is saved
- Family Managed Services
- September 2011: detailed information/help is on the website
- January 2012: make it easier for families to be involved with Family Managed Services
- Many needs
- April 2012: PDD plans made to make sure the same excellent help for people with many needs
- April 2012: Work with the other areas of the government to get better help for people with many needs
