Long-Term Care Accommodation Fees

Long-term care maximum accommodation fees were raised by three per cent on February 1, 2011 to:

  • Private room – $55.90 per day, from $54.25
    (for an average monthly room rate of $1,700);
  • Semi-Private room – $48.40 per day, from $47.00
    (for an average monthly room rate of $1,472); and
  • Standard Room – $45.85 per day, from $44.50
    (for an average monthly room rate of $1,395).

Alberta's long-term care accommodation fees remain among the lowest of any province in Canada.

Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped

The province covered the adjustment for Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) clients, meaning that these residents continue to have a minimum of $315 in monthly disposable income.

Alberta Seniors Benefit

Seniors receiving benefits through the Alberta Seniors Benefit (ASB) program saw an increase to their January 2011 ASB payment. Benefits are calculated to ensure that seniors have a minimum of $265 in disposable income every month for items such as clothing, toiletries, stationery and newspapers. This minimum monthly disposable income for seniors in long-term care is among the highest in Canada.
