Alberta Supports

Alberta Supports seeks to make it less complicated for Albertans to:

  • find information about social based assistance programs offered by the Alberta government;
  • access the appropriate type and level of service and support they need; and
  • get help with transitioning between programs as their age and circumstances change.

To help Albertans do this, two choices have been created—a web portal and a toll-free contact centre.

Alberta Supports Contact Centre

To call the Alberta Supports contact centre, dial 1-877-644-9992 (toll-free in Alberta)
In Edmonton, dial 780-644-9992

Partnering Ministries

The Alberta Supports initiative is led by Seniors and Community Supports. The other four partner Ministries are: Children and Youth Services; Employment and Immigration; Housing and Urban Affairs; and Service Alberta.

How Alberta Supports started

In 2008, Premier Ed Stelmach gave Mary Anne Jablonski, Minister of Seniors and Community Supports, a mandate to lead the Social Based Assistance Review. The purpose of the review was to review related policy, programs and services through innovative collaboration with partner Ministries.

The desired outcome of the review was to support vulnerable Albertans by moving toward citizen-centered programs and services that are more effective, appropriate and easier to access. The Alberta Supports web portal and contact centre are an outcome of the review.

What's next

Work is being done to identify a number of early initiatives that will help to move toward this new integrated and client-centered approach. As well, pilot projects are also getting underway in several locations around the province to explore approaches to delivering in-person services more effectively.
