Robert Bhatia
Deputy Minister of Seniors and Community Supports
Robert Bhatia was appointed Deputy Minister of Alberta Seniors and Community Supports in July 2009. He previously served as the Deputy Minister of Alberta Finance and Enterprise, Finance, Government Services, and Revenue.
Since joining the Alberta public service in 1977, Mr. Bhatia has held a number of executive management positions with a wide range of economic, financial and administrative responsibilities. His knowledge and expertise are respected across Alberta and the rest of Canada.
Mr. Bhatia has extensive experience in economic and financial policy and strategy, tax administration, investment policy and operations and financial sector regulation. Most recently, Mr. Bhatia has led several major initiatives to improve the effectiveness of major social based programs.
Mr. Bhatia also has a strong interest in governance and serves on a non-profit board of directors.
Born and raised in Alberta, Mr. Bhatia has a bachelor’s degree in economics (honours) from the University of Alberta and a master’s degree in economics from Queen’s University.
Mr. Bhatia is married and has two adult children. He is a strong supporter of the arts and enjoys marathon running.
