1. When is a senior eligible for hearing aid funding through AADL?

A senior is eligible at the beginning of the next month after turning 65. Proof of age is required. Please ensure the client fills out the form for financial eligibility (cost-share) because this form is often not filled out. You must also emphasize that the maximum funding through AADL is $945 for one hearing aid every five years.

2. I made a mistake on the audiogram. How can I fix it?

Once you receive the message "Audiogram Added", you can not fix it. However, you can add another audiogram and put a note, by clicking on the scroll and quill icon in the authorization process to let the benefit area know you made an error and the second audiogram is the correct one.

3. What happens when I click "NEXT" instead of "ADD" after keying in the audiogram?

The information is lost. Remember to record your authorization number. From the menu choose the Maintain Authorization tab. At Step 3, key in the audiogram data again and click "ADD" and then "NEXT" to continue.

4. What are some common e-business errors for hearing benefits?

  • There is a tendency for vendors to “fix” errors in a claim by creating another claim. Please do not do this because it creates multiple claims for one benefit.
  • The assessment date is the test date not the fitting date.
  • Vendors use the override unnecessarily.
  • Entering the service date in after the authorization expiry date—expiry dates can be found out by running an e-business report. Claims cannot be made after the authorization date has expired.
  • There are problems with binaural billing for children’s hearing aids. Vendors must enter the fitting fee twice, once for each ear. Also in the billing of repairs for children, vendors often have over quantity errors.

5. What is the assessment date for hearing aid repairs and replacement ear molds?

The assessment date is the date that you assessed the client for the service for which you are billing. When you are billing for a hearing aid repair, the assessment date is the date the client picked up the repaired aid and signed the Service Certificate. When you are billing for a replacement ear mold, the assessment date is the date the client picked up the ear mold and signed the Service Certificate.
