Priority Actions

The Priority Actions are six initiatives that are intended to improve the Persons with Developmental Disabilities program. The Priority Actions will help the program be more responsive to individual needs and focus on helping adult Albertans with developmental disabilities to be included in their communities and live as independently as possible.

The goals of the Priority Actions are to improve clarity about the PDD program's mandate, increase consistency in program delivery, and increase its effectiveness and efficiency so the program is sustainable over the long term.

Priority Action #4: Increase flexibility for families to manage supports

From September 2009 to June 2010, consultations were done with families, PDD-supported individuals, service providers, and PDD staff involved with Family Managed Services to determine how this option could be improved for families. The results of these consultations are summarized in a "What We Heard" report.

Priority Action #6: Increase effectiveness and efficiency of the program

PDD-funded service providers have suggested that efficiency and individual outcomes will be improved by a greater level of flexibility in service provider contracts. In March and April 2010, the PDD Community Boards consulted with service providers, PDD-supported individuals and families about how to improve flexibility within the contracting process. The results of these consultations are summarized in a "What We Heard" report.
